The Bears have re-signed starting guard Ruben Brown. He started all 16 games for the Bears last season and he’s started all 37 games that he’s played in for the Bears. He’s still a good football player and this was a good signing for the Bears.

The Chicago Bears sign DT Anthony Adams

The Bears have signed DT Anthony Adams to a 4 year contract. He played in 14 games for the San Francisco 49ers last season and he made 21 tackles, had 2.5 sacks and defensed a pass. The Bears really need Adams as they have lost a couple of defensive linemen in free agency so far. He will likely start for the Bears in 2007.

The Chicago Bears acquire safety Adam Archuleta from the Washington Redskins

The Bears have acquired safety Adam Archuleta for a conditional sixth round pick. This was a good trade for the Bears and for Archuleta who was in the Redskins’ doghouse. He played in all 16 games last season and he made 60 tackles, had 1 sack and defensed a pass. Archuleta will probably replace Mike Brown who suffered a really bad injury last season. Look for Archuleta to excel in Chicago in much the same way he did when he played for Lovie Smith when he coached the St. Louis Rams.

The Bears trade Thomas Jones to the New York Jets

The Bears have traded running back Thomas Jones and the #63 pick in the NFL Draft to the New York Jets for the #37 pick in the NFL Draft. The Bears better hope that they can keep Cedric Benson healthy as Thomas Jones rushed for 1,210 yards last season. Benson rushed for 647 yards last season and now will be the main man in the running attack for the Bears. Benson will do a good job, but I still don’t think the Bears made a good trade here.

Thomas Jones was a solid football player for the Chicago Bears in his three years here. He played in 45 games (all starts) and he carried the ball 850 times for 3,493 yards (4.1 ypc) with 22 TD runs. He also caught 118 passes for 724 yards (6.1 avg). Jones will be missed.
