Michael Okwo is an interesting player for the Bears. He’s undersized at 5’11″, 220 pounds but he’s fast as he runs a 4.65 40. Okwo has a very quick first step when rushing the passer but he has big problems defending the run when teams come right at him. In 42 games (14 starts) at Stanford, Okwo made 181 tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss, had 4 sacks, broke up 11 passes and had 1 interception. If Okwo gets a little bit faster it’s possible that the Bears would try him at safety. Still, he will play on a lot of special teams were he could be a standout for the Bears.

The NFL suspends NT Tank Johnson for the first 8 games of the 2007 season

The NFL has suspended Tank Johnson for the first 8 games of the 2007 season without pay for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He’s lucky he wasn’t suspended for the whole season which is probably what he deserves after the policy searched his house and found an arsenal of automatic weapons that sent him to jail. This is not that big of a loss for the Bears as they have planned this off-season for this as they expected it to happen. Plus, Johnson is a vastly overrated football player. He played in 14 games for the Bears last season and he made only 26 tackles, had 3.5 sacks, defensed 1 pass and forced 1 fumble. In fact, Johnson’s career numbers are nothing special either. In three seasons Johnson has played in 46 games and he’s made 63 tackles, 9 sacks, defensed 3 passes and forced 1 fumble. If Lovie Smith was an offensive coach the Bears would have cut ties with Johnson a long time ago because he’s not worth the hassle.
