Chicago Bears 20, Kansas City Chiefs 10
The Bears won this football game because of their defense and special teams. For some reason the Chiefs felt the need to punt the ball to Devin Hester and challenge him and that was a poor choice! Hester returned 5 punts for 143 yards (28.6 avg) including one punt that he returned 73 yards for a TD in the 2nd quarter. The defense was outstanding again yesterday as they bottled up the Chiefs’ offense. Linebacker Lance Briggs played like a man possessed as he led the Bears defense with 12 tackles and he also had a sack. Brian Urlacher was also all over the football field as he had 9 tackles and a sack. DT Tommie Harris was the impact player on the front line of the defense with 5 tackles and 2 sacks. The Bears held the Chiefs to 70 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.9 ypc) and the Chiefs completed 23 of 32 passes for 211 yards.
The Bears offense still looked shaky yesterday as Rex Grossman had another rough game. Grossman completed 20 of 34 passes for 160 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions. RB Cedric Benson looked much better than in week #1 as he carried the football 24 times for 101 yards (4.2 ypc). Bernard Berrian (5 rec, 65 yards) and Desmond Clark (4 rec, 29 yards) led the way for the Bears in the passing game. But, it was OT John St. Clair who caught Grossman’s only TD of the day.,,,,a 2-yarder on a tackle elgible play. The Bears finished up this game with 107 yards rushing on 29 carries (3.7 ypc) and they completed 20 of 34 passes for 132 yards.
