This was a sweet win in a dim season for the Bears.  Kyle Orton just managed the football game as he completed 8 of 14 passes for 101 yards with a TD pass.  Adrian Peterson was a workhorse yesterday as he carried the ball 30 times for 102 yards (3.4 ypc) with a TD run.  Rookie RB Garrett Wolfe also got some work in as he carried the ball 12 times for 29 yards (2.4 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 38 yards (19.0 avg).  The Bears finished up with 139 yards rushing on 45 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 8 of 14 passes for 101 yards.

Brian Urlacher led the way on defense for the Bears with 5 tackles and a interception that he returned 85 yards for a TD.  DE Alex Brown also had an outstanding game as he had 5 tackles, a sack and a interception.  The Packers finished up with 125 yards rushing on 21 carries (6.0 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 32 passes for 149 yards.

Rookie cornerback Crey Graham also scored a TD on a 7-yard return of a blocked punt.

The Chicago Bears lose DT Antonio Garay for the season

Blogged under Big Bear News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 7 December 2007 at 11:02 pm

The Chicago Bulls have lost defensive tackle Antonio Garay for the season with a right ankle injury.  He played in 6 games this season for the Bears and he made 5 tackles.  Still, this hurts the Bears who are now down to two DTs on the active roster.  It also hurts Garay who was in line to get the first real playing time of his NFL career.

Rex Grossman could miss the rest of the season for the Chicago Bears

Blogged under Big Bear News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 7 December 2007 at 1:16 pm

Rex Grossman’s left knee bent like no man’s should ever in last night’s game with the Redskins.  He could wind up missing the remainder of the season.  Grossman didn’t play well at all this season as he completed 122 of 225 passes (54.2%) for 1,411 yards with 4 TD passes and 7 interceptions (66.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 14 times for 27 yards (1.9 ypc).  Brian Griese will replace Grossman in the starting lineup.  He has completed 161 of 262 (61.5%) passes for 1,803 yards with 10 TD passes and 12 interceptions (75.6 QB Rating) so far this season.  He also has carried the ball 13 times for 28 yards (2.2 ypc).  It might be a good idea for the Bears to get Kyle Orton some playing time at the end of the season and see if he has maintained his skills and can help them in the future.

Washington Redskins 24, Chicago Bears 16

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Friday 7 December 2007 at 10:23 am

The Bears just ran into a buzzsaw last night as the Redskins wanted the game more last night and that showed on the field.  Rex Grossman injured his left knee in what appears to be a major injury in the first quarter and he did not return to the game.  He completed 2 of 6 passes for 14 yards before he was injured.  Brian Griese replaced him and he completed 27 of 45 passes for 295 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions.  Adrian Peterson had another bad game as he carried the ball 17 times for 35 yards (2.1 ypc).  Garrett Wolfe was active as he carried the ball 3 times for 13 yards (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 37 yards (9.3 avg).  Bernard Berrian (7 rec, 91 yards) and Devin Hester (5 rec, 67 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Bears.  The Bears finished up with 60 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 51 passes for 296 yards.

The Bears defense was led by safety Brandon McGowan (10 tackles), DE Alex Brown (7 tackles) and DE Adewale Ogunleye (5 tackles, fumble recovery).  The Redskins finished up with 31 yards rushing on 24 carries (1.3 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 36 passes for 314 yards.

Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 6 December 2007 at 12:39 pm

This is a battle between two disappointing teams with starting QBs that turn the ball over at alarming rates.  The team that loses this game will likely be watching the playoffs on T.V. which makes is a must-win game for both teams.

The Bears won’t change anything on offense as they prefer to run the ball and throw deep.  The problem with that against the Redskins is that they have a really good run defense as they only allow 97.8 yards rushing per game and 3.9 ypc.  Part of the problem for the Bears offense this season is that the offensive line is starting to look their ages and that’s not a good thing.  Bears QBs have been sacked 38 times this season and they must keep Andre Carter (8 sacks) out of their backfield if Rex Grossman is going to have time to throw the ball deep which is his best asset.  Still, look for Grossman to attack the safeties of the Redskins with TE Desmond Clark down the seams.

The Redskins will likely attack the Bears with their running game.  The Bears are allowing 130.8 yards per game rushing and 4.4 yards per carry so far this season.  Clinton Portis (920 yards rushing, 7 TDs) and Ladell Betts (259 yards rushing) should be able to find running room but it’s also possible that Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs could have big games to stump the Skins running game.  More important to the Redskins is that QB Jason Campbell must protect the football.  He has thrown 11 interceptions this season and he’s lost 8 fumbles so look for the Bears to bring the heat on him.  DE Adewale Ogunleye has 9 sacks and he has forced a fumble in four consecutive games so the Redskins must keep him out of their backfield.  The way the Redskins can attack the blitz is by throwing short passes to TE Chris Cooley and WR Santana Moss and hope they can break a big play or two.

PREDICTION:  BEARS 20, REDSKINS 17

Where has the running game went for the Chicago Bears?

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 6 December 2007 at 11:54 am

The Bears were a good running team last season as the carries were split between Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson.  The Bears decided to trade Jones in the off-season to open the door for Cedric Benson to get the full time job and it hasn’t went too well for them.  Benson carried the football 196 times for 674 yards (3.4 ypc) with 4 TD runs before he blew out his knee ending his season.  Veteran backup Adrian Peterson has taken over the starting job at running back and he hasn’t been much better than Benson.  He has carried the ball 74 times for 256 yards (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs so far this season.  The Bears need Peterson to pick it up or teams are going to blitz Rex Grossman at will which will lead to big mistakes.

New York Giants 21, Chicago Bears 16

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Tuesday 4 December 2007 at 1:45 am

The Bears quite simply choked in this game as they were leading 16-7 heading into the 4th quarter.  Rex Grossman kept the passing game short as he completed 25 of 46 passes for 296 yards with 1 TD pass.  Adrian Peterson was busy as he carried the ball 22 times for 67 yards (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 7 passes for 82 yards (11.7 avg).  Desmond Clark also had a nice game as he caught 5 passes for 76 yards (15.2 avg) with a TD grab.  The Bears finished up with only 68 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 46 passes for 244 yards.

Brian Urlacher (14 tackles, interception) and Lance Briggs (10 tackles) led the way for the Bears defense.  The Giants finished up with 175 yards rushing on 37 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 27 passes for 181 yards.
