2. (44) Matt Forte, RB

With the Bears’ running game looking awful last season it made sense that they would draft a running back early in the draft and that’s why they chose Matt Forte.  Bears’ fans will love Forte as he is a powerful, straight ahead bruising type of running back.  He is 6’1″, 221 pounds but he’s a tad slow running a 4.6 40.  Forte always seems to be falling forward as his best running is usually between the tackles.  He played in 43 games (30 starts) at Tulane and he carried the ball 833 times for 4,265 yards (5.1 ypc) with 39 TD runs.  He also caught 103 passes for 985 yards (9.6 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Forte will push Cedric Benson for the starting job and he was a solid pick in the 2nd round.

1. (14) Chris Williams, OT

The Bears jumped at the chance to get younger in the offensive line when they chose OT Chris Williams from Vanderbilt in the first round.  He will likely start right away at left tackle and he is a good pass blocker but he has a lot of issues run blocking as he doesn’t have great power despite his size.  He is 6’6″, 317 pounds but sometimes he takes plays off and that just won’t cut it in the cold of Chicago.  He played in 35 games (33 starts) the last three seasons for Vanderbilt.  If Williams can get more physical in the running game he will likely start a long time for the Bears whose O-Line is still very old.
