The Bears have signed WR Brandon Lloyd to a 1-year contract.  He played in 8 games for the Redskins last season and he only caught 2 passes for 14 yards.  He has now played in 68 games in his NFL career and he has caught 130 passes for 1,889 yards (14.5 avg) with 13 TD grabs.  Lloyd was worth a gamble by the Bears as he’s quite a acrobat…too bad he drops a lot of easy passes.

The Bears have brought back Marty Booker on a 2-year contract.  Booker played in 15 games last season for the Dolphins and he made 50 grabs for 556 yards (11.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Booker has now played in 128 games in his NFL career and he has caught 509 passes for 6,311 yards (12.4 avg) with 34 TD grabs.  This was a good move for the Bears who don’t have much at receiver right now due to the departures of Bernard Berrian and Mushin Muhammad in free agency.

The Chicago Bears claim fullback Jon Goldsberry off of waivers from Tampa Bay

The Bears have claimed fullback Jon Goldsberry off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Goldsberry was on the Bucs last season but he didn’t carry the ball even once. He will likely backup Obafemi Ayanbadejo for the Bears. The Bears needed some depth at fullback because of the injury to J.D. Runnels so that was the reason for this move. Goldsberry will also probably play on special teams with the Bears.

The Chicago Bears sign fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo

The Bears have signed Obafemi Ayanbadejo to a 1-year contract. Ayanbadejo is the classic fullback as he’s more of a blocker than a runner and he will likely fit in well with the Bears because of that. He played in 14 games last season for the Cardinals and he carried the ball 9 times for 37 yards (4.1 ypc) and he caught 17 passes for 139 yards (8.2 avg). He has played 8 seasons in the NFL covering 101 games. In those games, Ayanbadejo has carried the football 123 times for 413 yards (3.4 ypc) with 5 TD runs. He also has caught 130 passes for 885 yards (6.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

The Chicago Bears sign a couple of high profile undrafted free agents

The Bears have signed QB Chris Leak of the Florida Gators and RB Darius Walker from Notre Dame. Leak is small of stature but he’s been a 4-year starter at Florida and he’s a film room junkie. He also helped lead his team to a National Championship last season. Leak is only 5′11″, 203 pounds but he runs a 4.75 40 yard dash which isn’t too shabby for a quarterback. Leak played in 51 games (47 starts) for the Gators and he completed 895 of 1,458 passes (61.4%) for 11,213 yards with 88 TD passes and 42 interceptions. Look for Leak to push Kyle Orton for his roster spot on the Bears.

Darius Walker got a little to big for his britches as he skipped his senior season and entered the NFL Draft, but no one wanted him. Now he will have an uphill battle to try to make the Bears. Still, there are some things to like about Walker. He has the skill set of a third down back in the NFL as he doesn’t have elite speed (4.55 40) or size (5′9″, 210) but he’s a tough runner that is a good receiver too. In 36 games (27 starts) at Notre Dame, Walker has carried the football 693 times for 3,249 yards (4.7 ypc) with 17 TD runs. He also has caught 109 passes for 815 yards (7.5 avg) with 3 TD receptions. He’s got his work cut out for him if he wants to make the Chicago Bears because he starts out behind Cedric Benson, Adrian Peterson and Garrett Wolfe.
